    today in global warming...........

Vancouver Winter weather sets several records

With file from Darah Hansen, Canwest News Service; Vancouver Sun
    Published: Monday, April 21, 2008

All that April snow this weekend was more than surprising -- it was also record-setting.

The flakes that fell across the Vancouver region Friday night and Saturday represent the latest snowfall ever on record.

At its peak, the storm dumped 2.5 cm of snow at the Vancouver International Airport, with 8 cm at Lynn Valley and 30 cm at Mount Seymour. Vancouver Island recorded 6.4 cm of snow at Victoria International Airport by 11 a.m. Saturday -- more than any on an April day since 1940. But the big record dump came in Nanaimo, where the city hadn't seen measurable snow on April 19 since 1947. As of 11 a.m., 24 cm covered the ground at the airport.

    and...........

Snow Blizzard forced Earth Day under a Tent in Canada/

So much for global warming. Earth Day festivities went ahead despite the blast of frigid weather yesterday.

A handful of visitors still took the time to inquire about several solar-powered products on display before running off toward the lone heater in the tent to warm up.

"Obviously we'll have fewer people than we would have liked, but to cancel an Earth Day event because of weather would kind of be the antithesis of what this is all about," said organizer Janice Boudreau.

Eco-Air representative Eric Gormley couldn't convince local kids lobbying city council for an anti-idling bylaw to brave the cold yesterday, but happily stepped up on their behalf, offering stickers and information about greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles.

"We're here to raise awareness of the problem, even though on a day like today you don't necessarily think of global warming," he said.

boy did you completely miss the point

first off.....the global warming sheeple have some thinking it should never snow again

secondly it isnt when it snows but the fact that its record snowfalls this late into the spring

again that shouldnt be happening because of "global warming"

but clearly it is.....and the reason it is.......is because al gore is full of [censored] and needs to be kicked square in the sternum

hahahaha...ok...let me know if it snows in Iceland this spring tho...Greenland too. Global warming means the Earth's atmosphere is warming...not that it'll never snow again in places where it typically snows. Doesn't imply you'll see huge climate changes overnight either.

    Re: today in global warming...........

"Global Warming" is a misnomer really for what we should be concerned about regarding the earth's climate. We should be worried about dramatic record-breaking weather patterns--record snows during winter in Vegas (happened this year or last one), record high temps in colder climates, with more expected rainfall and less expected snowfall. Longer periods of drought, even if followed up by some rainfall, is cause for concern.

There are extreme weather anomalies that we should be on the lookout for, even if 80% of the rest of the year is normal, it's the increase in the extraordinary happening where it shoudln't that we should worry about--because if things keep getting a little out of whack, more and more, the climate will eventually get to the point to where a major swing will occur before we know it.

Let Gore chase after ManBearPig, and be more concerned with how pollution and other adverse environmental factors are causing swift climate change in either direction.

but again you are missing the point

the fact that its still snowing this late in the spring when "warming" indicates it shouldnt be.....because it should be too warm for snow now

secondly......if there was a thing as "global warming" you wouldnt be seeing record breaking snowfalls at this point in the year

i dont know that i agree with that

we know that there is a long and documented history of climate change cycles

this is nothing more than one point on that cycle

but if you look at the nonsense that douchebag gore has said.....hes clearly talking about "warmer" temperatures

remember his crap about warmer ocean temps leading to stronger and more frequent hurricanes?

he specifically discussed "warmer ocean temps"

so in his way of thinking "global warming" means exactly that

and clearly he couldnt be more incorrect

    Re: today in global warming...........

I really think you're the one that is missing the point...you seem to think that because there is a phonomenon called global warming, that it isn't supposed to snow in specific places in the spring. In order to more fully understand, I think it would be best to compare avg. snowfall data in a place to the avg. snowfall in the same place 20-30 years ago. That's when scientists started talking about global warming anyways....see how the 2 numbers stack up. Plus, do the same with natural disasters....
...And if you ain't down with that, I got 2 words for ya....
